Electrochromic Glass
Product Description
InnoGlass's advanced electrochromic (EC) glass technology employs cutting-edge all-inorganic solid-state materials that reversibly and precisely alter their optical properties—such as color, transmittance, and reflectivity—under low-voltage electrical stimulation. This innovative, highly reliable approach delivers superior long-term performance in dynamic light and heat management for energy-efficient buildings.
PRODUCT STRUCTURE

Our all-inorganic solid-state electrochromic (EC) glass technology employs inorganic solid-state metal oxide nano-thin films, integrated into an Insulated Glass Unit (IGU) structure as a superior alternative to traditional Low-E glass. This design delivers outstanding UV resistance, exceptional stability in high-temperature environments, and significantly extended service life.
It enables broad-range tunable control over visible light and near-infrared transmittance, providing superior optical modulation performance and excellent thermal insulation capabilities.
Powered by a low-voltage DC source with excellent memory effect (bistability), it achieves extremely low energy consumption—requiring power only during state transitions.
PRODUCT FUNCTION
Intelligent Shading
By applying voltage, it achieves stepless adjustment of light transmittance, transitioning seamlessly from transparent to deep tint for precise light control and enhanced visual comfort. It effectively blocks heat radiation and glare, significantly improving energy efficiency and reducing air conditioning energy consumption.
Reliable and Durable EC Technology
We utilize inorganic electrochromic materials produced via magnetron sputtering coating process, offering excellent resistance to high temperatures, UV radiation, and oxidation. It ensures stable performance even in extreme environments, with a product lifespan exceeding 20 years, providing long-lasting and reliable smart dimming solutions for architecture, automotive, and intelligent devices.

FAQ
Q1:
Which Glass Changes Tint Faster: EP or EC?
A:
EP glass typically changes tint much faster. It is useful where occupants want a prompt response to changing sunlight. EC glass generally changes more gradually, and its switching time can depend on the glass size and system design.
Q2:
What Is the Main Difference Between EP and EC Smart Glass?
A:
EP glass uses SPD technology to adjust light transmission by changing the alignment of suspended particles. EC glass uses an electrochromic coating that changes tint through an electrical reaction. Both can control daylight, but they differ in switching speed, power use and behavior when power is removed.
Q3:
How Do I Choose Between EP and EC Glass?
A:
Start with three questions: How quickly must the glass respond? What should it look like during a power outage? How much light and solar heat should it admit in each state? Compare product samples and tested data for the complete glazing assembly before making the final selection.
Q4:
How Do EC Smart Glass and EP (SPD) Smart Glass Differ in Construction?
A:
EC smart glass uses an electrochromic functional coating integrated with a glass substrate. The functional glass is typically assembled into an insulated glass unit (IGU); it is not made by laminating a separate switchable film between two panes. In some EC glazing designs, the functional glass is positioned toward the exterior and provides solar control as part of the IGU design.
EP (SPD) smart glass uses a different structure: the SPD film is laminated between glass panes, and the laminated panel is then incorporated into an IGU. In a typical EP IGU configuration, the EP laminated panel is positioned toward the interior, with Low-E glass on the exterior side to support the unit’s thermal performance.
Q5:
Where Is EC Smart Glass Commonly Used?
A:
EC glass is suited to windows, façades and skylights where daylight and solar exposure change during the day. The glazing and control strategy should be selected for the building’s orientation and intended use.
Q6:
Can EC Smart Glass Help Reduce Glare and Solar Heat?
A:
Darkening the glass can reduce incoming visible light and glare. Solar heat performance depends on the complete glazing construction, so compare tested values such as visible light transmission (VLT) and solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) for the proposed unit.
Q7:
How Fast Does EC Smart Glass Change Tint?
A:
EC glass generally changes tint gradually. The time to reach a selected state varies with the product, panel size and operating conditions. If rapid switching is essential, compare the stated switching times of the proposed EC and EP (SPD) products.
Q8:
Does EC Smart Glass Need Continuous Power to Stay Dark?
A:
EC glass uses electricity to change tint. Many EC systems can retain a selected tint with little or no continuous power, but the exact behavior depends on the product and controller. Confirm the power and power-outage specifications for the proposed glass.
Q9:
Does EC Smart Glass Turn Frosted for Privacy?
A:
No. EC glass changes tint rather than creating the white frosted appearance associated with PDLC privacy glass. A darker tint may reduce visibility, but it should not be treated as guaranteed obscured-view privacy.
Q10:
How Does Electrochromic Glass Work?
A:
An electrical signal changes the optical state of the electrochromic layer, causing the glass to darken or become lighter. The glass can be set to different tint levels, depending on the product and control system
