FAQ
Q41:
Can Smart Film Be Used on Sliding Doors, Hinged Doors or Operable Windows?
A:
Yes, if the film, glass and electrical connection are designed for the moving panel. Sliding and hinged systems need different wire routes and protection methods. Confirm the opening direction, frame details and available space for the cable before production.
Q42:
What Are the Maximum Sizes for Self-Adhesive Film, Laminating Film and Finished Smart Glass?
A:
Available roll widths vary by film type. For example, current self-adhesive PDLC film is commonly available in 1.0, 1.2, 1.5 and 1.8 m widths, while PNLC film is available in 1.2 and 1.45 m widths. Finished smart glass is generally available up to approximately 1.8 × 3.66 m, depending on its construction. Share the dimensions of each glass panel in your project, and we can review the suitable film size and glass solution.
Q43:
What Information Do You Need to Recommend the Right Smart Film or Smart Glass?
A:
First, tell us what you want the glass to do: provide privacy, control sunlight and glare, or both. Then share the glass dimensions, application (such as an office partition, door, window or skylight), and whether the glass is new or already installed. Photos or drawings of the glass and frame will help us recommend a suitable film or finished glass solution.
Q44:
Why Do Smart Film and Smart Glass Need a Compatible Sealant Around the Film Edges and Electrodes?
A:
The film edges and electrical connections are vulnerable to moisture and other liquids. A compatible sealant helps protect them from exposure that could affect switching performance. Electrodes commonly use materials such as silver paste and copper tape, which can oxidize if left unprotected. Sealing these areas helps reduce that risk. The sealant must also be compatible with the smart film and its electrical components; ordinary glass sealant should not be used without confirming compatibility.
Q45:
Why Do Smart Film and Smart Glass Need a Dedicated Transformer?
A:
Smart film and smart glass are designed to operate at a specified AC voltage. Many products use AC 60 V, while others are designed for AC 48 V or AC 110 V. A dedicated transformer supplies the voltage required by the particular product. If the voltage is too low, the film may not reach its intended clear state; if it is too high, the electrical layers may be damaged or break down. Always match the transformer’s output voltage and frequency to the product specification—do not connect smart film directly to the mains supply.
Q46:
How Can I Evaluate the Quality of Smart Film?
A:
Smart film is a building material, so its quality should first be judged by stability, reliability and durability. Check whether it switches consistently, maintains a uniform appearance and has test data relevant to its intended environment. Once these fundamentals are confirmed, compare three key optical properties: visible light transmission (VLT) for brightness, haze for clarity in the transparent state, and viewing angle for how well the view holds up from different positions. A film with impressive optical figures is only a good choice if it also performs reliably over time.
Q47:
Can Self-Adhesive Smart Film Be Used Inside Laminated Glass?
A:
Use the smart film grade specified for lamination. Self-adhesive smart film is designed for application to an existing glass surface, while laminating film is selected for bonding inside a glass assembly.
Q48:
Can an Autoclave Be Used to Produce Laminated Smart Glass?
A:
Yes, an autoclave can be used if the process is suitable for the selected smart film and EVA interlayer. Temperature, pressure, vacuum and cycle time must be set appropriately; a standard PVB glass recipe should not be applied without validation.
Q49:
Which Interlayer Does Recommend for Smart Glass Lamination?
A:
We generally recommend a compatible EVA interlayer for our smart film. The EVA grade and lamination process should be selected together to achieve good bonding without damaging the switchable layer.
Q50:
Can Smart Film Be Laminated with Standard PVB?
A:
No. We do not recommend standard PVB for our laminating smart film. Plasticizers in conventional PVB may migrate and damage the film, affecting its appearance and long-term performance. Use the interlayer specified for the InnoGlass product.
