FAQ
Q21:
Does EC Smart Glass Turn Frosted for Privacy?
A:
No. EC glass changes tint rather than creating the white frosted appearance associated with PDLC privacy glass. A darker tint may reduce visibility, but it should not be treated as guaranteed obscured-view privacy.
Q22:
How Does Electrochromic Glass Work?
A:
An electrical signal changes the optical state of the electrochromic layer, causing the glass to darken or become lighter. The glass can be set to different tint levels, depending on the product and control system
Q23:
What Is EC Smart Glass?
A:
EC (Electrochromic) smart glass is glazing that changes tint in response to an electrical signal. It lets users adjust the amount of daylight entering a space while maintaining a view through the glass.
Q24:
Is Photochromic PVB Suitable for Solar Control?
A:
It can provide adaptive shading by darkening under stronger UV exposure and becoming lighter as exposure decreases. For a project with specific heat-gain requirements, compare tested solar performance for the complete laminated glass or IGU, rather than judging performance by tint alone.
Q25:
Does Photochromic Glass Provide Privacy?
A:
Darkening can reduce visibility through the glass, but photochromic glass should not automatically be treated as complete privacy glass. Its tint changes with UV exposure and may become lighter when sunlight is weak. If reliable obscured-view privacy is essential, evaluate a dedicated privacy glass solution.
Q26:
Can I Set Photochromic Glass to a Specific Tint Level?
A:
No. Its tint responds to available UV light rather than a manual setting. If the project needs users to select a tint level on demand, an electrically controlled product such as EP or EC glass may be more suitable.
Q27:
Will Photochromic Glass Darken Equally in Every Location?
A:
No. Its response depends on how much effective UV light reaches the photochromic layer. Orientation, weather, surrounding shade and other glass layers can affect the result. The proposed glass build-up should be checked to ensure the photochromic PVB receives the UV exposure it needs.
Q28:
Can Photochromic PVB Be Made into an Insulated Glass Unit (IGU)?
A:
Yes. Photochromic PVB can first be made into laminated photochromic glass. That laminated panel can then be incorporated into an IGU according to the required window construction.
Q29:
Can Photochromic PVB Be Applied to Existing Glass Like Window Film?
A:
No. Photochromic PVB is an interlayer intended for glass lamination, not a self-adhesive film for application to an existing window surface. To use it on an existing project, the relevant glass panel would need to be replaced with a suitable finished glass product.
Q30:
Does Photochromic PVB Need Electricity?
A:
No. It responds to UV light automatically. It does not need wiring, a transformer, a switch or a controller.
