FAQ

  • Q1:

Which smart glass technology should I choose?

    A:

As a simple guide: choose PDLC/PNLC for privacy, DLC for privacy plus shading, EP (SPD) for fast dynamic solar control, and Photochromic Glass for automatic power-free shading. The final choice should also consider glass location, sunlight intensity, desired transparency, privacy requirements, glass structure and project budget.

  • Q2:

When should Low-E IGU smart glass be used?

    A:

For exterior windows, curtain walls, skylights and other building-envelope applications, smart laminated glass can be incorporated into an insulating glass unit with Low-E glass. This combines smart functions with improved thermal insulation and overall glazing performance.

  • Q3:

Can smart film be used on exterior windows?

    A:

Self-adhesive smart film should be installed on the indoor side of existing glass in a dry environment. Direct sunlight is not a problem, but the film should be protected from rain, condensation and prolonged moisture exposure. It is not recommended for direct outdoor installation.

For windows, curtain walls, bathrooms or other humid and exterior glazing applications, laminated smart glass or IGU smart glass is recommended. The smart film is protected inside the glass structure, providing better durability and environmental protection. These glass products can be used as exterior-facing glazing for windows, façades, curtain walls and other architectural applications, subject to the required glass configuration and local building standards.

  • Q4:

Should I choose smart film or finished smart glass?

    A:

Smart film is suitable for projects requiring flexible fabrication or installation onto existing glass, depending on the film type. Finished smart glass integrates the functional film inside laminated glass, providing better protection and durability. For permanent architectural projects, laminated smart glass or smart IGUs are generally preferred.

  • Q5:

Is smart glass suitable for hospitals and healthcare facilities?

    A:

es. PDLC and PNLC smart glass can provide instant privacy for patient rooms, ICU areas, consultation rooms and medical partitions. The smooth glass surface is also easier to clean and maintain than many traditional curtains or blinds while allowing natural daylight into the space.

  • Q6:

What are the advantages of photochromic glass?

    A:

Photochromic glass automatically becomes darker under stronger sunlight and lighter when sunlight is reduced. It requires no electrical control system, making it a simple solution for passive solar shading. However, unlike electrically controlled smart glass, users cannot independently control the tint level on demand.

  • Q7:

What are the advantages and disadvantages of DLC smart glass?

    A:

DLC combines privacy, dark shading and light control in one solution. It is useful where conventional PDLC cannot provide enough shading. However, the dark privacy state changes the appearance of the glazing, so the required color and transparency should be considered during project design.

  • Q8:

What are the advantages and disadvantages of EP (SPD) smart glass?

    A:

EP (SPD) provides fast, continuously adjustable solar and glare control while maintaining visibility through the glass, making it suitable for façades, skylights and roof glazing. Compared with PDLC, it is better for solar control but is generally a more specialized and higher-cost solution.

  • Q9:

What are the advantages and disadvantages of PDLC smart glass?

    A:

PDLC offers fast switching, excellent privacy and good natural light transmission. It is widely used for offices, meeting rooms, bathrooms and healthcare partitions. However, its main function is privacy rather than strong solar shading, and the transparent state can still have some haze compared with ordinary clear glass.

  • Q10:

What is the best smart glass for curtain walls and skylights?

    A:

For curtain walls, skylights and glass roofs requiring dynamic solar control, EP (SPD) smart glass is a strong option. It provides fast adjustment from lighter to darker states while maintaining a view through the glass. For applications requiring both shading and privacy, DLC can be considered. Photochromic glass is another option when automatic, power-free solar shading is preferred.
