FAQ
Q1:
Can Smart Film Be Installed on Curved or Irregularly Shaped Glass?
A:
Some films and glass constructions can accommodate curves or custom shapes, but feasibility depends on the film type, bending radius, cutting method and busbar position. Provide a dimensioned drawing and, for curved glass, the radius before ordering. Complex designs should be reviewed before fabrication.
Q2:
Can Smart Film Be Used on Sliding Doors, Hinged Doors or Operable Windows?
A:
Yes, if the film, glass and electrical connection are designed for the moving panel. Sliding and hinged systems need different wire routes and protection methods. Confirm the opening direction, frame details and available space for the cable before production.
Q3:
What Are the Maximum Sizes for Self-Adhesive Film, Laminating Film and Finished Smart Glass?
A:
Available roll widths vary by film type. For example, current self-adhesive PDLC film is commonly available in 1.0, 1.2, 1.5 and 1.8 m widths, while PNLC film is available in 1.2 and 1.45 m widths. Finished smart glass is generally available up to approximately 1.8 × 3.66 m, depending on its construction. Share the dimensions of each glass panel in your project, and we can review the suitable film size and glass solution.
Q4:
How Do I Choose Between Laminated Smart Glass and Self-Adhesive Smart Film?
A:
Choose laminated smart glass when ordering new glass or when enclosing the film within the panel is important. Choose self-adhesive smart film when suitable glass is already installed and avoiding replacement is the priority. Confirm the environment, glass dimensions, wiring and total installed cost before ordering.
Q5:
Should I Use Laminated Smart Glass or Self-Adhesive Smart Film in a Bathroom?
A:
For glass frequently exposed to water or moisture, laminated smart glass is generally the better starting point, provided its edges and electrical connections are properly designed. Self-adhesive film should be considered only on a dry, protected surface that meets its installation requirements.
Q6:
Is Laminated Smart Glass More Durable Than Self-Adhesive Smart Film?
A:
Laminated smart glass provides better physical protection for the film because it is enclosed within the glass. Self-adhesive film has an exposed surface and edges, so installation quality, edge protection and cleaning practices matter more. Actual service life depends on the product and conditions of use.
Q7:
What Is the Main Difference Between DLC and EP Smart Film?
A:
DLC (Dye Liquid Crystal) film combines a dark opaque privacy state with adjustable light control. EP film, based on SPD technology, primarily adjusts the tint of the glazing to manage daylight and glare. The key choice is whether the project needs obscured-view privacy or variable shading with a view through the glass.
Q8:
What Is the Main Difference Between Black PDLC and Black DLC Film?
A:
Black PDLC is made by applying black window film to both sides of white PDLC film. Black DLC uses dye liquid crystal technology to create its dark state. This difference in construction gives Black DLC a wider visible light transmission (VLT) range in InnoGlass’s product lineup.
Q9:
How Should I Choose Between PNLC and PDLC?
A:
Start with one question: What should the glass look like when power is off? Choose PNLC for a clear default or PDLC for a frosted default. Then confirm the film’s optical performance, electrical requirements and glass construction for your project.
Q10:
Where Is PNLC a Better Fit Than PDLC?
A:
PNLC suits glass that should normally remain transparent, with privacy activated only when needed—for example, a meeting room partition that is usually left open to view. PDLC suits spaces where frosted privacy is the preferred default.
Q11:
Are Both Films Dark When Powered Off?
A:
Yes. Both appear dark and obscure the view when power is off. Black DLC has a lower off-state VLT, allowing less visible light through in its dark state.
Q12:
What smart glass is suitable for hotel windows?
A:
For hotel windows where privacy and sunlight control are both important, DLC smart glass can be a good solution. It changes between a transparent state and a dark privacy state, providing more light and shading control than conventional PDLC privacy glass.
Q13:
What smart glass is suitable for hotel bathrooms?
A:
PDLC and PNLC smart glass are both suitable for hotel bathroom partitions. They provide instant privacy without traditional curtains or blinds and help create a clean, spacious and modern interior. Laminated smart glass is generally recommended for permanent hotel bathroom installations.
